해설문

국문

명부전은 지장보살을 모시는 전각으로 시왕(十王)과 판관(判官), 녹사(錄事), 동자 등을 봉안한다. 지장보살은 지옥에서 고통받는 중생들을 구원하는 분이다. 스스로 지옥에 들어가 “지옥이 텅 비지 않는다면 결코 성불을 서두르지 않고, 육도의 중생을 다 제도한 후 깨달음을 이루리다.”라고 서원하였다.

명부전의 내부 불단에는 중앙에 지장보살이 있다. 양옆에는 중생들의 악한 마음을 없애준다는 무독귀왕과 사후세계를 경험하고 자신이 본 바를 세상에 알린 도명존자가 서 있다. 또한 재판관인 10명의 시왕과 재판을 보조하는 판관, 실무관리인 녹사, 그리고 불법을 보호하는 인왕상이 서 있다. 명부전은 철종 8년(1857)에 대적광전과 마주보는 위치에 건립하였으나 1972년 현재의 위치로 옮겼다.

Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, or the Bodhisattva of Great Vows, took on the responsibility of rescuing unfortunate beings from hell and vowed to postpone Buddhahood until all beings are saved from the world of suffering. The Ten Underworld Kings preside over the judgment of the dead. Therefore, Myeongbujeon Hall symbolizes the realm of the dead and is used as a venue for consolation ceremonies for the spirits of the dead.

영문 해설 내용

명부전은 지장보살과 시왕을 모신 곳이다. 지장보살은 지옥에서 고통받는 중생을 구원하며, 모든 중생을 구원할 때까지 성불을 미루는 보살이고, 시왕은 저승세계에서 죽은 자의 죄를 심판하는 10명의 왕이다.

금산사 명부전은 1857년에 지었다. 원래는 미륵전과 대적광전 사이에 있었으나, 1972년 현재의 위치로 옮겼다.

불단 가운데에는 지장보살이 앉아 있고, 양옆에는 사람들의 악한 마음을 없애준다는 귀신 왕인 무독귀왕과 사후세계를 경험하고 이승에 돌아와 자신이 본 바를 세상에 알린 젊은 스님 모습의 도명존자가 서 있다. 불단 양옆에는 시왕, 시왕의 재판을 보조하는 판관, 실무관리인 녹사의 상이 배치되어 있으며, 양쪽 끝에는 불교의 수호신인 인왕상이 서 있다.
