해설문
국문
인천 제18은행 지점은 1890년에 일본이 해외에 세운 최초의 은행지점이다. 일본이 중국을 상대로 한 면직물 중개 무역이 번창하자 수출입과 통관 업무의 중심지였던 인천에 지점을 개설한 것이다. 이후 1936년 조선식산은행 인천지점에 그 업무를 인계하였으며, 1954년 상공은행과 신탁은행의 합병으로 발족한 한국흥업은행 지점으로도 사용되었다. 현재 인천개항장 근대건축전시관으로 활용되고 있다. 1903년에 신축된 단층 건물로 기단부와 기둥은 돌을 사용했으나 벽체는 벽돌을 쌓은 후에 시멘트와 모래 반죽으로 마감하여 석조건물처럼 보이게 한 절충주의 양식 건물이다. 정면 출입구의 상부와 좌우 기둥은 정교하게 석재로 장식하였다.

Former Japanese 18th Bank, Incheon Branch
The Japanese 18th Bank, Incheon Branch, was the first overseas branch of a Japanese bank. During the late 19th century, as Japan made a great profit through the intermediary trading of cotton, the Japanese 18th Bank founded its branch office in 1890 near Incheon Port, the trade hub of the time.
This one-story building was constructed in 1903 with a stone foundation and stone pillars. Its brick walls were covered with cement. After the liberation of Korea in 1945, this building was used by some Korean banks and is currently used as the Incheon Open Port Modern Architecture Museum.
