The Buddha was carved on a single mass of granite stone. The large protuberance on the top of the head symbolizes the Buddha’s wisdom, and its facial features have been severely worn away, leaving their contours only. The three creases encircling his neck represent the “three destinies” of afflictions, actions, and suffering. Its right hand is lifted upward at chest level, and the left palm is facing upward. The robe covers both shoulders. Due to the erosion and rough carving, the shape of hands and clothes is unclear. It measures 2 m in height, but its exact height is uncertain because its legs are buried under the ground.

This is the oldest standing Buddha in the Pocheon area, and it is a valuable source of study on the Buddhist art of the early Goryeo period.
