해설문
국문
광경사지 석불좌상은 원래 광경사 터에 있던 불상이다. 1975년 홍성읍 대교리에 있는 광경사에서 홍성읍 내법리에 있는 용주사로 옮겨 왔다.
불상은 화강암으로 만들었는데 상투 모양의 머리 묶음은 작은 편이고, 얼굴은 둥근데 사실적이며, 직선으로 뻗어 나간 눈동자에는 진주를 끼웠던 흔적이 남아 있다.
목에는 세 개의 주름(三道)이 있고, 양쪽 어깨를 감싼 옷 주름은 평행의 단을 이루고 있으며, 불상이 앉아있는 자리에는 연꽃잎이 표현되어 있다.
사실적인 얼굴 표정과 간략한 연꽃무늬 표현 등의 수법을 고려할 때 고려 시대 작품으로 추정된다.

영문 해설 내용
화강암으로 만든 이 불상은 고려시대에 만들어진 것으로 추정된다. 원래 대교리 광경사 터에 있던 것을 1975년 지금 위치인 용주사로 옮겨 왔다.
머리에는 부처의 지혜를 상징하는 육계가 있고, 목에는 번뇌, 업, 고통을 상징하는 삼도가 깊게 새겨져 있다. 두 눈은 진주로 눈동자를 끼웠던 흔적이 남아있다. 양쪽 어깨를 감싼 옷 주름은 형식화된 여러 개의 평행선으로 표현되었다. 불상이 앉아있는 대좌에는 연꽃잎이 새겨져 있다.
