The northern side of the Magoksa Temple consists of various buildings, including Daegwangbojeon Hall which enshrines a statue of Vairocana Buddha, Daeungbojeon Hall which enshrines a statue of Sakyamuni, the Buddha, monks’ living quarters called Shimgeomdang, and Eungjinjeon Hall which enshrines statues of Sakyamuni, the Buddha, and arhats, the perfected disciples of the Buddha.

It is unclear when this division occurred, but it is said that the northern side was completed in 1650 in the year of reconstruction of the temple, which was destroyed in war. The temple thrived, gathering over a thousand of monks, but in 1782 and 1783, all buildings except for the Daeungbojeon Hall were destroyed in fires. It is said that the northern section was completed in 1650 when the temple was reconstructed following a series of foreign invasions. The temple thrived, gathering over a thousand monks, but in 1782 and 1783, all the buildings except for Daeungbojeon Hall were destroyed in fires. In 1785, Daegwangbojeon Hall was reconstructed, and in 1791 and 1797, Eungjinjeon and Simgeomdang Halls were constructed, respectively. Since then, the buildings have undergone several repairs.

To the left from the Daegwangbojeon Hall is the Baekbeomdang Pavillion, a memorial building constructed in 2004 in honor of Kim Gu (1876-1949, pen name: Baekbeom), ''a Korean statesman and a leader of the Korean independence movement against the Japanese Empire'', who at some point lived as a monk in Magoksa Temple. To the right of the memorial building grows a juniper tree said to have been planted there by Kim Gu during his visit to the temple in 1946. Behind the memorial building is built in 2006 Josajeon Hall which enshrines the portraits of four eminent monks who entrusted their valuable works to Magoksa Temple.
