It wears a bandana on the head, and its neck and chest are decorated with an elaborated necklace. It has a square-shaped buckle in the area of the left shoulder, so that its garment won’t fall to the floor. The wide, flat face, and the formal horizontal folds of the clothes are characteristics of Buddhist statues made in the early period of the Joseon dynasty.

This bodhisattva statue was stolen in 1936 during the Japanese colonial period (1910-1945) and returned to Seonunsa Temple two years after that. In this connection, there is a legend about the miraculous power of the statue. The bodhisattva statue, which was sold to Japan after the theft, appeared intermittently in the dreams of the Japanese who had purchased it, ordering him to be returned to its hometown, Dosol Mountain in Gochang. The owner of the statue thought that was insignificant. However, his fortune gradually declined and he became ill, and the same thing was repeated even if the collectors (holders?) were changed several times. Finally, the last collector contacted the police station in Gochang and requested them to take the bodhisattva statue to be enshrined, so in November 1938, monks of Seonunsa Temple and policemen went to Japan and retrieved it.
