King Jinji’s birth name was either Kim Sa-ryun or Kim Geum-ryun. He was the second son of King Jinheung (r. 540–576). His older brother Dong-ryun was crown prince, but died early, and so upon his father’s death, King Jinji became king. He let administrator/general Geo Chil-bu (?-579) oversee national affairs and continued his father’s legacy by building the Naeriseoseong Fortress. He defended against troops from the neighboring Baekje kingdom and established diplomatic relations with Qin China. However, just four years after coming to the throne, he forced off the throne by the Council of Elders.

Although the tomb has not been excavated, it is presumed to be a stone chamber tomb with corridor. There are some stones around the bottom of the tomb mound which are presumed to be remains of the stone base. The tomb of King Jinheung is nearby.
