Stone Basin of Bulguksa Temple, Gyeongju
A stone basin was used to collect water needed for a Buddhist temple and typically had a rectangular or round shape. It was also used as a place to plant lotus flowers offered to the Buddha.
Prior to its designation as a cultural heritage in 2007, this stone basin in Bulguksa Temple was used to provide drinking water to visitors. It has a typical rectangular shape, but its inside is carved with ornate lotus flower designs, which is more elaborate than other stone basins. The outside of the basin is carved with a horizontal line pattern, with the bottom-most part carved with designs. In the center of the bottom of the basin there is a drain.
