해설문
국문
사찰에 의례나 행사가 열릴 경우 깃발을 높이 달아 알렸는데, 그 깃발을 당(幢), 깃대를 당간(幢竿), 그리고 긴 당간이 흔들리지 않게 지탱해주는 지지대를 당간지주라고 하며 대개 사찰의 입구에 세워진다.
이 당간지주는 아래 부분이 땅속에 묻혀 있는 상태이며, 가운데 부분이 두드러지고 꼭대기 안쪽에 당간을 고정시키기 위한 큰 홈이 있다. 지주의 윗쪽 바깥면에 네모난 틀을 두고, 그 안에 8장의 연꽃잎을 돌려 새겨 놓았는데, 이처럼 당간지주에 장식을 하는 경우는 그 예를 찾기 어렵다.
제작시기는 8세기 중엽 이후로 추정된다. 이 당간지주의 동남쪽으로 보문사 터(사적 제390호)가 있다.

Flagpole supports are a pair of stone pillars set up to support a flagpole which was used to mark Buddhist temple precincts by hanging flags or to celebrate special events and large gatherings by hanging banners.
These flagpole supports are located to the northwest of the site of Bomunsa Temple. The are presumed to have been made sometime after the mid-8th century.
