해설문
국문
사찰에 의례나 행사가 있을 때 입구에 깃발을 높이 달아 알렸는데, 그 깃발을 당(幢), 깃대를 당간(幢竿), 그리고 긴 당간이 흔들리지 않게 지탱해주는 지지대를 당간지주라고 한다.
북쪽 기둥은 윗부분이 일부 떨어져 나갔고, 남쪽만 완전한 상태로 남아있다. 두 기둥에는 당간을 고정시키던 홈이 3개씩 있는데, 남쪽 기둥은 뚫어서 구멍을 냈다. 한쪽 기둥에만 구멍을 낸 것은 매우 드문 경우이다.
전체적인 형태가 가늘고 긴 모습이지만 안정감이 있다. 다른 당간지주에 비해 비교적 작은 규모로, 매우 소박한 모습의 통일신라시대 작품이다. 보문사 터의 중심인 금당(金堂) 터로부터 남서쪽으로 150m 가량 떨어져 있다.

Flagpole Supports of Bomunsa Temple Site, Gyeongju
Flagpole supports are a pair of stone pillars set up to support a flagpole which was used to mark Buddhist temple precincts by hanging flags or to celebrate special events and large gatherings by hanging banners.
These flagpole supports are located around 150 m to the southwest of the site of the main worship hall of Bomunsa Temple, which is said to have been founded sometime before 870 during the Unified Silla period (668-935).
