Flagpole supports are a pair of stone pillars set up to support a flagpole which was used to mark Buddhist temple precincts by hanging flags or to celebrate special events and large gatherings by hanging banners.
These flagpole supports are located around 500 m to the south of the site of Namgansa Temple. They are presumed to date to the middle period of Unified Silla (668-935).
The two pillars stand 70 cm apart on an east-west axis. They have a simple design without decoration. On the sides of each pillar, there are two rectangular holes, and on the top, there is a groove. Metal belts were inserted into these holes and grooves to secure the erected flagpole.
