해설문

국문

변씨고가는 거창지역 근대기 부농 밀양변씨의 가옥으로 안채를 중심으로 사랑채와 안사랑채, ㄱ자형의 중문간채가 안마당을 중심으로 배치되어‘튼□자’모양을 이루고 있다. 안마당 중심의 집약적인 건물 배치 및 안채와 사랑채의 겹집형 평면 구성, 다양한 창고 공간의 존재와 다양한 창호의 사용 등은 근대 이후 부농층 한옥의 변화를 잘 보여 준다.

변씨고가2(문화재자료 제487호)와 주택이 나란히 배치되어 있어 당시 형제간의 공간 구성을 알 수 있는 중요한 건축물로 평가 받고 있다.

거창 지역의 근대기 부농가옥의 공간구성과 건축 형식을 잘 보여 주고 있다는 점에서 학술적 가치가 높은 건축문화재이다.

This house was built in the early 20th century as a residence of the Miryang Byeon clan, a family of wealthy farmland owners who lived in the Geochang area. This house was owned by the eldest son of the family.

영문 해설 내용

이 집은 거창 지역의 부농이었던 밀양변씨의 가옥으로 20세기 초에 지어졌다.

대문채, 안채, 사랑채, 안사랑채, 중문간채가 마당을 중심으로 ㅁ자형으로 배치되어 있다. 대문을 들어서면 정면의 중문간채와 오른쪽의 사랑채가 보인다. 안채로 들어가기 위해서는 중문간채 왼쪽에 있는 문을 이용하면 된다.

안채는 부엌, 방, 대청으로 이루어져 있다. 대청 뒷면에는 제기를 보관하기 위한 창고 공간이 있다. 부엌을 입식으로 고치고 툇마루 앞에 문을 단 것은 나중에 보수한 것이다.

바로 옆에는 동생의 집이 있는데, 같은 해에 문화재자료 제487호로 지정되었다. 당시 형제간의 주거 공간 구성을 보여준다.
