해설문

국문

최진사 고가는 화순 최씨 종택으로 4형제 중 첫째 집이며 당대 사대부집의 규모를 가늠해 볼 수 있는 조선 후기 양반 가옥이다.

최원근(崔元根)이 처음 지었으며 그의 아들 최홍열(崔鴻烈)이 1894년 진사시에 급제 하면서 ‘최진사 고가’로 불리고 있다.

이 집은 격식을 갖춘 안채와 사랑채, 대문채 등이 원형대로 잘 보존되어 있어 당시의 생활상을 살필 수 있다. 또한 평면 구성의 건축 형식과 구조, 수장 공간의 구성, 세부 장식 등 여러 면에서 특징적인 요소를 많이 가지고 있다.

전통 한옥이 근대기를 거치면서 어떻게 변모했는지를 잘 보여주는 근대 한옥이라는 점에서 학술적인 가치가 큰 건축 문화재이다.

This house, built by Choe Won-geun (1850-1923) in the late 19th century, was a head house of the Hwasun Choe Clan. A head house is a residence passed down among the male successors of a family lineage.

영문 해설 내용

이 집은 19세기 말에 지어진 화순최씨 종택이다. 종택이란 한 집안의 종가가 대대로 사는 집이다. 최원근(1850-1923)이 지었으며, 그의 아들인 최홍열이 1894년에 진사시에 급제하면서 ‘최진사 고가’라고 불린다.

앞쪽에서부터 대문채, 사랑채, 안채가 배치되어 있으며, 안채 오른쪽에 곳간채가 있다. 안채는 왼쪽에서부터 부엌, 안방, 대청, 작은방이 배열되어 있고, 방 뒤편에는 벽장과 같은 수장공간이 있다. 사랑채는 가운데에 사랑방을 두고 양옆에 누마루를 두었으며, 누마루에는 난간을 둘러 건물의 품격을 높였다.

이 집에서 서쪽으로 50여 m 떨어진 곳에 위치한 월헌고가(경상남도 문화재자료 제583호)는 최원근의 막내동생인 최정근이 살던 집이다.
