The ancient tombs in Aju-dong include dolmens of the Bronze Age (1500-300 BC) and tombs built in the 6th-7th centuries by the kingdom of Silla (57 BCE-935 CE).

An excavation survey conducted in 1996 found 16 dolmens and 9 Silla tombs on this site. Most of the dolmens are presumed to be of the unsupported capstone type, which is is comprised of an underground stone burial chamber covered by flat stones and a capstone placed on top of it. The excavated artifacts include plain potteries and polished stone tools.

Most of the Silla tombs are stone chamber tombs with a horizontal entrance. From these tombs, various burial goods such as pottery and earthenware containers were excavated. Stones are placed around the base of the earthen mounds to prevent the soil from eroding. The large mounds and wide area in which these tombs are scattered suggest that the tombs were built for people of the ruling class at that time.

The fact that the dolmens from the Bronze Age and the tombs from the Silla kingdom were found in the same location proves that this area had been considered a proper place for the ruling class to create tombs.
