해설문
국문
이곳은 김포시 월곶면 성동리와 강화군 강화읍 갑곶리 사이를 배편으로 연결하던 나루터이다. 처음에는 나루터 시설 없이 이용되었다가 조선 세종 원년(1419) 박신이라는 사람이 자신의 재산을 털어 14년간 공사를 하여 석축로를 완성하였고, 이후 약 500년간 사용되었다. 이후 교통수단의 변화로 1920년경 나루터가 폐쇄되었으며, 1970년 강화대교가 개통되면서 완전히 폐쇄되었다. 정묘호란 때(1627) 인조가 이곳을 건너 강화도로 피신하였고, 병인양요(1866) 때에는 프랑스군과 치열한 격전을 벌인 곳이기도 하다.
영문
Stone Jetty of Gapgonnaru Dock
Gapgonnaru Dock was for the boats running between Gimpo and Ganghwado Island. There had not been any facilities for this dock until Park Sin (1362-1444), a civil official of the early Joseon period, built the jetty in 1419. He continued the construction of the stone jetty for 14 years at his own expense, and the jetty was used for nearly 500 years. In 1627, King Injo (r. 1623-1649) used this jetty to take refuge in Ganghwado Island during the Manchu invasion. Joseon also fought a fierce battle against the French army near here in 1866. After 1920, the jetty was no longer used due to the opening of a new dock.
