Hongsanhyanggyo Local Confucian School is presumed to have been established in 1517. It burned down during the Japanese invasion of 1597 and was reconstructed in 1610. The original site on which the school was built was considered too high, so in 1643 the complex was moved to its current location on a plane below. Since then, its buildings underwent several repairs.

  • making Hongsanhyanggyo a valuable source of historical knowledge. --> can we just say that the plaques are valuable, not the hyanggyo? Or, say something more along the lines of - it is uncommon for a hyanggyo to have such detailed records?
