The legend is related to Sin Rip (1546-1592), a military official of the mid-Joseon period (1392-1910). Sin and his people fought against the Japanese in the Chungju area during the Japanese Invasion of 1592-1598, but was greatly defeated. Frustrated, Sin fell in the river and drowned himself. His soldiers moved his body to this area and buried here. According to the legend, when anyone on a horse pass by this rock after the burial of Sin Rip, the horse’s feet was suddenly stuck on the ground and couldn’t move forward. One day, a literati went to the tomb of Sin Rip and rebuked the dead for teasing the people. All of a sudden, thunder came and a lightning hit this rock and split it in two, creating a pond beside it. After then, people were able to freely pass by these rocks and these rocks were called “the rock of mountain and pond.”

Originally, the pond beside these rocks were connected to the nearby streams but due to the urban development plan, a school and stores replaced the pond site.
