해설문

국문

경전을 강의하고 공부하는 곳이다. 말로 설법이 이루어지는 곳임에도 ‘설법이 없는 곳’ 즉 무설전이라고 한 것은 진리의 본질이 언어를 통해서는 도달할 수 없는 경지에 있음을 의미하는 것이다. 임진왜란 때에 불타고 1648년에 다시 세운 것으로 추정되며 1708년에 수리하였다. 1910년대 초반까지는 건물이 남아 있었으나, 그 뒤 허물어진 채 방치되었다. 1969~1973년 불국사 복원공사 때 옛터에 정면 8칸, 측면 4칸 규모의 원래 크기대로 복구하였다.

Museoljeon Hall

Museoljeon is a lecture hall for the study of the Buddhist scriptures. The name Museoljeon means “Hall Free from Preaching” and implies that it is impossible to comprehend the absolute universal truth through human language. The current building was newly constructed on top of the original foundation during the renovation project of 1969-1973.
