경남 남해군 남해읍에 자리한 법흥사는 대한불교 조계종 제13교구 본사 쌍계사의 포교당이다.
법흥사(法興寺)는 1900년대 초, 남해의 용문사와 화방사가 불교 포교를 위해 지금의 남해읍행정복지센터 부지에 공동으로 중건한 사찰로, 이것이 법흥사의 전신이다.
당시 포교당의 보광전과 함께 남해군수의 객사 건물이 있었는데 1917년 현재의 위치로 옮겨오면서 보광전과 객사 건물을 그대로 이전하였다. 이후 보광전은 대웅전으로, 객사 건물은 설법전으로 새롭게 중건되었다.
법흥사는 남해의 중심지인 남해읍에 자리하며, 지역 주민들과 함께하는 불교신행 활동의 도량이다. ‘남해불교대학’을 운영하여 군민들에게 불교의 기본 교리를 교육하고, 불자가 지녀야 할 예절과 예불(禮佛)에 대한 강의를 통해 불교 신행의 바탕을 넓혀가고 있다.
또한 법흥사에서 운영하는 연꽃어린이집은 지역 유아 교육의 한 축을 담당하며, 어린이들이 자연스럽게 불교와 친숙해질 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 이 어린이집은 1996년 6월 해문 스님이 남해군으로부터 보육단체로 선정된 뒤, 1998년 보육시설을 완비해 개원하였다.
법흥사는 남해 불교 대중화의 중심 사찰로서, 웅장하고 경건한 대웅전을 중심으로 신도들의 신행활동과 교육, 지역 사회의 화합을 이끌어가고 있다.

Beopheungsa Temple, Namhae
Beopheungsa Temple is a propagation center of Ssanggyesa Temple, Diocese No. 13 Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It is the main temple for popularization of Buddhism in Namhae, leading the practical activities and education of its lay followers in harmony with the local community.
In the early 1900s, Beopheungsa Temple was jointly established by Namhae's Yongmunsa Temple and Hwabangsa Temple at the current location of the Administration and Welfare Center of Namhae-eup to propagate the ideology of Buddhism. At that time, the building of the Namhae Local Government's guesthouse was next to Beopheungsa Temple and when Beopheungsa Temple was moved to its current location in 1719*, the building of the guesthouse was moved together with it. After they were moved, the temple building was newly rebuilt into the main worship hall Daeungjeon Hall and the guesthouse building - into Seolbeobjeon Hall.
Located in Namhae-eup in the center of Namhae, Beopheungsa Temple is a site for Buddhist practice activities together with the local people. It operates Namhae Dharma School*(?) and educates the citizens on general Buddhist theology, thus expanding the background for Buddhist practice through lectures about the etiquette and worship of Buddhist followers. In addition, Lotus Public(?) Child Care Center* which operates at Beopheungsa Temple, is dedicated to the foundation of early childhood education in the area and helps children become naturally familiar with Buddhism. After this public child care center was selected as a daycare organization by Namhae-gun County in June 1996, it was equipped with a daycare facility founded in 1998.
