조선 시대 전국의 목장 정보가 기록된 『목장지도(1678)』에 따르면 동래부에는 절영도 목장(지금의 영도), 석포 목장(지금의 우암동 일대), 오해야항 목장(지금의 동구·서구·사하구 일대)이 있었다. 수정동 목장성은 오해야항 목장의 바깥성에 해당한다.
『목장지도』에 따르면 오해야항 목장성은 길이 60리 규모로 암남동∼다대포 구간의 내성(內城), 토성동∼하단동 구간인 중성(中城), 부산항∼엄궁동 사이인 외성(外城)의 3중 구조였음을 알 수 있다. 『태종실록』에서는 당시 동래부에서 가장 큰 목장이었던 오해야항 목장성은 태종 16년(1416)에 세웠는데 말 700여 필을 방목하였다고 한다.
수정동 목장성은 동구 수정동 동여자중학교 뒤쪽의 능선에서부터 부산진구 가야, 개금에 걸쳐 1.7km 정도 그 흔적이 남아 있는데, 성벽 일부는 너비 3.5m, 높이 2m 정도의 양호한 모습을 보여주고 있다.
수정동 목장성은 조선 시대 동래부의 남쪽 전체가 말을 키우던 목마장이었다는 사실을 알려주는 중요한 유적이다.

Ranch Fortress in Sujeong-dong
A ranch fortress, called mokjangseong in Korean, was a fortress within which horses were raised during the Joseon period (1392-1910).
The ranch fortress in Sujeong-dong was part of a larger ranch fortress in the Ohaeyahang area that is presumed to have been established at the turn of the 15th century. According to an entry from 1416 in the Annals of King Taejong (Taejong sillok), about 700 horses had been successfully raised at Ohaeyahang Ranch, and it was considered suitable for horse husbandry throughout the year. According to Maps of Ranches (Mokjang jido), published in 1678, there were also other horse ranches in Dongnae (present-day Busan), including one on Jeoryeongdo Island (in present-day Yeongdo-gu) and one at Seokpo Harbor (in present-day Uam-dong).
The Ohaeyanghang Ranch was divided into front, middle, and rear sections by fortress walls. In total, the walls measured about 24 km in length. The ranch fortress in Sujeong-dong comprised the front section of the Ohayanghang Ranch. Today, only a 1.7 km section of the wall remains, stretching from the mountain ridge behind Busandong Girls’ Middle School in Sujeong-dong, Dong-gu, to the areas of Gaya-dong and Gaegeum-dong in Busanjin-gu. The remaining wall is in relatively good condition, measuring about 3.5 m in width and about 2 m in height.
The ranch fortress in Sujeong-dong is an important historic site that provides important insights into the cultivation of horses in the southern area of Dongnae during the Joseon period.

목장성은 조선시대에 말을 키우기 위해 쌓은 성이다.
수정동 목장성은 14세기 말-15세기 초에 만들어진 것으로 추정되는 오해야항 목장성의 외성이었다. 『태종실록』 중 1416년 한 기사에 “오해야항 목장에 말 700여 필을 방목하였더니 그 말들이 아주 잘 자랐다. 이곳은 사철 방목할 수 있어 목장으로 적당한 곳이다”라는 기록이 있는 것으로 보아 오해야항 목장은 조선 초에 만들어진 것으로 추정된다. 『목장지도(1678)』에 따르면 동래부에는 절영도 목장(지금의 영도), 석포 목장(지금의 남구 우암동 일대), 오해야항 목장(지금의 동구·서구·사하구 일대)이 있었다.
