해설문

도산서당의 작은 연못으로, 정우당이라는 이름은 ‘깨끗한 벗이 있는 연못’이라는 의미이다. 퇴계선생은 진흙 속에서 피어나는 하얀 연꽃을, 절의를 지키는 정결한 군자의 모습으로 설정하였다.

영문

Jeongwoodang

This lotus flower pond is called Jeongwoodang. Yi Hwang (1501-1570) planted lotus flowers in the pond and named the pond Jeongwoodang which means 'a pond with friends in it with purity.' Lotus flowers symbolize the purity of Confucian morals that students ought to cultivate during their lifetime.
