This is known to be the tomb of King Talhae (r. 57-80), the 4th ruler of the Silla dynasty (57 BCE–935 CE).
King Talhae was a member of the Seok Clan. He ascended to the throne following his father-in-law, King Yuri (r. 24-57) of the Park Clan. King Talhae is said to be the son of the king of a faraway land called Dapana. He was born as an egg, which his father considered an unlucky omen, so his father put the egg in a box with jewels and sent it out to sea. It eventually came ashore in Silla territory. A fisherman found the egg, inside which was a baby boy, who grew up to become Talhae.
There are no stone structures around the tomb mound. Inside the tomb mound there is a stone chamber and a corridor connecting the chamber to the entrance. A ritual house was also built here in 1980 to facilitate ancestral rituals in honor of King Talhae. Nearby is the site of the founding of Silla’s Council of Elders.
