이곳은 창덕궁 신선원전의 외삼문 오른쪽 성벽 아래로 흐르는 소하천에 마련된 빨래터로서 길이는 약 4.8m, 너비는 약 2.4m 규모이다.
궁내의 물이 궁궐 담장을 통해 바깥으로 흐르는 곳에 평교 형식(平橋形式)으로 두 칸 다리를 설치한 다음, 그 위에 성벽을 연결하였다.
궁내에 풍부한 수원(水原)이 있어 사시사철 마르지 않을 정도로 물이 많이 흘렀으며, 궁궐과의 경계인 담장 아래에 있어 궁궐의 궁인뿐만 아니라, 일반 백성들도 함께 이용하였다.
청계천과 함께 오래된 전통의 빨래터로 널리 알려진 곳이다.

이곳은 조선시대에 사용되던 빨래터이다. 창덕궁 서북쪽에 위치한 신선원전의 외삼문 오른쪽 성벽 아래로 작은 소하천이 흐른다. 물이 궁궐 담장을 지나 바깥으로 흐르는 곳에 두 칸 다리를 설치하고 그 위에 성벽을 연결하였다. 빨래터의 길이는 약 4.8m, 너비는 약 2.4m 이다.
