해설문

국문

극락전 구역의 정문으로 연화교와 칠보교를 올라와서 아미타불이 계시는 극락전으로 들어가는 문이다. 안양은 극락의 다른 이름이다. 8세기 중엽 불국사 창건 때 만들었을 것이지만, 임진왜란 때 불타버린 것을 여러 차례 고쳐 세웠다. 현재의 건물은 강릉 임영관 삼문[객사문, 국보 제51호]을 본떠 1962년에 신축한 것이다. 앞면 3칸, 옆면 2칸 규모의 맞배지붕 건물이다.

Anyangmun Gate

Anyangmun Gate is the main entrance to the courtyard of Geungnakjeon Hall, where Amitabha, the Buddha of the Western Paradise, is venerated. The name means “Gate of Fostering Peace,” which is a way to reference the Western Paradise. The gate was first built when Bulguksa Temple was established in the mid-8th century, but it was destroyed and repaired several times. The current gate was newly built in 1962 based on the Main Gate of Immyeonggwan Guesthouse in Gangneung (National Treasure No. 51).
