Mudeungsan Mountain: Where the Traditional Ceramic Industry Thrived
Narrative
Rich in natural resources, Mudeungsan Mountain is home to a kiln used to produce celadon, buncheong ware, and porcelain from the late period of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) to the early period of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910). The kiln site, located in Chunghyo-dong, is designated as a Historic Site. The area in which the kiln is located is known to be abundant in natural clay deposits. The artifacts excavated from the site are kept at the Asian Ceramic Culture Hall within the Gwangju National Museum and the Mudeungsan Buncheong Ware Hall within the Gwangju History and Folk Museum.
