*Many Western missionaries came to Korea in the late 19th and early 20th century. Gwangju was no exception. Gwangju became the home of many Western missionaries, particularly those from the Presbyterian Church in the United States. The episodes in this story will take a closer look at the missionaries, their families, and their lives in Korea, including Eugene Bell, Elisabeth Shepping, the Coit and Crane families, as well as others laid to rest in the missionary cemetary in Yangnim-dong.
