He has written more than 150 books and articles on Korea. He also translated several&lt;br /&gt;
pieces of Classical and Modern Korean Literature. Among his most important books there are:&lt;br /&gt;
The Bronze Age in Korea (Kyoto, 1989), An Introduction to Korean Language (Naples, 1990),&lt;br /&gt;
Korean Folk Tales (Milan, 1994), A History of Korean Literature (Palermo, 1996). Wives,&lt;br /&gt;
Husbands and Concubines (Palermo, 1998), Korean Religious Poetry (Turin, 2004), A&lt;br /&gt;
History of Korea (Milan, 2005), The Possible Love: The Tale of Chunhyang (Palermo, 2008).&lt;br /&gt;
His A History of Korean Literature and A History of Korea are the first example of books of&lt;br /&gt;
such a kind ever written by a western scholar.&lt;br /&gt;
Among his translations there are Yi Munyeol’s The Golden-winged Bird (Geumsijo),&lt;br /&gt;
The Poet (Siin), Our Twisted Hero (Uridur-eui ilgeurojin yeongung) and The Winter of That&lt;br /&gt;
Year (Geuhae gyeoul). He also translated Kim Seungok’s Record of a Journey to Mujin&lt;br /&gt;
(Mujin gihaeng), Yi Gyunyeong’s The Other Side of a Dark Remembrance (Oduun gieog-eui&lt;br /&gt;
jeopyeon) and Cho Jongnae’s Land of Exile (Yuhyeong-eui ttang). As for Korean classical&lt;br /&gt;
literature he translated The Tale of Queen Inhyeon (Inhyeon wanghu-jeon),The Tale of Yi&lt;br /&gt;
Chunpung (Yi Chunpung-jeon), The Tale of Ch’unhyang (Chunhyang-jeon), Kim Manjung’s&lt;br /&gt;
A Nine Clouds’ Dream (Guunmong), Hŏ Kyun’s The Tale of Hong Gildong (Hong Gildongjeon)&lt;br /&gt;
and Hyecho’s Record of a Pilgrimage to the Five Regions of India (Wangocheon&lt;br /&gt;
chukkukjeon).&lt;br /&gt;
Maurizio Riotto also won a KCAF (Korean Culture &amp;amp; Arts Foundation) translation&lt;br /&gt;
award in 1995 for the translation into Italian of Yi Munyeol’s novel The Poet and the Sicily’s&lt;br /&gt;
Cultural Award for his History of Korean Literature, in 1996. In 2011, he received, by decree&lt;br /&gt;
of the President of the Republic of Korea, the Medal of Honor for Cultural Merits (문문문장)&lt;br /&gt;
“for the exceptional contribution given, by means of his research and teaching, to the&lt;br /&gt;
development and diffusion of Korean Studies&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
He has delivered lectures and conferences on Korean Studies-related subjects at&lt;br /&gt;

Since 1990 Prof. Maurizio Riotto (1959-) has taught Korean Language and Literature at Naples’ “L’Orientale” University (established 1732), the first institution to have opened a course of Korean Studies in Italy and the oldest university in the western world specialized in Orientalism. After obtaining a Master Degree in 1982, at Palermo National University, he took a Ph.D Degree in 1988 at Rome National University. He also completed a Ph.D. course at the Department of Archaeology of Seoul National University. He is a member of AKSE(Association for Korean Studies in Europe), Korean Archaeological Society, Korean Historical Society (responsible for Europe), and IAKLE - International Association for Korean Language Education - (responsible for Italy). In 1991 and 1993 he was visiting scholar at Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan). In 1994 and 2000 he was visiting scholar at Hanyang University (Seoul). In 2002/2003 and 2007/2008 he was visiting professor at SungKyunKwan University, Seoul, where he taught Comparative Cultures to MA and Ph.D. students. In 2009-2013, as visiting professor, he taught Pre-modern History of Korea and Politics in Traditional Korean Literature, Topics in Religion and History of Korea at Sŏgang University, Seoul. In 2013, as Visiting Professor, he taught Pre-Modern history of Korea at Ewha Woman’s University. His main fields of research are Pre-modern History of Korea, Cultural History of Korea, Korean Classic Literature and Comparative Studies.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
