1. 子曰:「學而時習之,不亦說乎?有朋自遠方來,不亦樂乎?人不知而不慍,不亦君子乎?」

2. 有子曰:「其為人也孝弟,而好犯上者,鮮矣;不好犯上,而好作亂者,未之有也。君子務本,本立而道生。孝弟也者,其為仁之本與!」

3. 子曰:「弟子入則孝,出則弟,謹而信,汎愛眾,而親仁。行有餘力,則以學文。」

士庶人曰『何以利吾身』?上下交征利而國危矣。萬乘之國弒其君者,必千乘之家;千乘之國弒其君者,必百乘之家。
As to the state of ten-thousand chariots, those who assassinate its ruler be must those who came from the house of thousand chariots. As to the state of thousand chariots, those who assassinate its ruler must be those from the house of hunred chariots.

萬取千焉,千取百焉,不為不多矣。苟為後義而先利,不奪不饜。未有仁而遺其親者也,未有義而後其君者也。

王亦曰仁義而已矣,何必曰利?」

Mencius answered: "Why should the king speak of benefits? Only benevolence and righteousness matter. The king said: "Why should I not be speaking of benifiting my country?" The senior official said: "Why should I not be speaking of benifiting my family?"


士庶人曰『何以利吾身』?上下交征利而國危矣。萬乘之國弒其君者,必千乘之家;千乘之國弒其君者,必百乘之家。

The commoner said: "Why should I not be speaking of benifiting my life?"

萬取千焉,千取百焉,不為不多矣。苟為後義而先利,不奪不饜。未有仁而遺其親者也,未而後其君者也。 Taking one thousand (chariots) from ten thousands or taking one hundred from one thousand may not be uncommon. In fact,

王亦曰仁義而已矣,何必曰利?」
