 What connections can we draw between the first couplet and the second? Is there a juxtaposition being drawn between the four seasons and the five elements and human spiritual nature?<br />
-NA: As discussed in class, I think the five elements and the four seasons do have some kind of connection as well as human nature. Looking it up, apparently in terms of seasons, there is spring, summer, late summer, fall, and winter. Wood=spring, fire= summer, earth= late summer, metal= autumn, water= winter. I'm sure the human spiritual nature also has something to do with the elements. Water with wisdom etc. etc.

 I also have a question: could you translate 靈 as spirit instead of spiritual? So that you can juxtapose 靈 (spirit) and 首 (head)? Since seasons are kind of abstract you juxtapose it with something physical like 首 (head), and then since all creatures/people are physical you compare that with something more abstract like 靈 (spirit)?

+(YO) Good question. I think the human realm is specific to human (and societal/civilizational) matters, whereas the earthly realm can encompass all the rest, such as geography, natural environment, animals, plants, and so on.<br />
