 東方史亦備矣。紀傳則有金文烈，鄭文成之三國高麗史。編年則徐四佳，崔錦南奉敎撰通鑑。因是而兪氏提綱，林氏會綱作焉。抄節則有權氏史畧，吳氏撰要等書。彬彬然盛矣。然而三國史踈畧而爽實。高麗史繁冗而寡要。通鑑義例多舛。提綱，會綱筆法或乖。至於因謬襲誤。以訛傳訛。諸書等爾。鼎福讀之慨然。遂有刊正之意。博取東史及中史之有及于東事者。一遵紫陽成法。彙成一帙。以爲私室巾衍之藏。資其考閱而已。非敢以撰述自居也。大抵史家大法。明統系也。嚴簒賊也。褒忠節也。正是非也。詳典章也。諸史於此。實多可議。故一皆釐正。而至若訛謬之甚者。別爲附錄二卷。系之于下。書成二十餘年。久未繕寫。丙申冬。承乏湖邑。簿領之暇。書一本。因述其由。用授家塾子弟。
