신무문

Definition

경복궁의 북쪽 궁문이다. 창건 연대는 정확히 알 수 없다. 태조 때의 기록에는 궁성을 쌓고 광화문, 건춘문, 영추문을 만들었다고는 되어 있으나 신무문의 이름은 나타나지 않는다. 이로 보아 광화문 등을 세운 이후 언젠가 세웠을 것으로 짐작한다. 이 문이 신무문이라는 이름을 얻은 것은1475(성종 6)년이다. 궁의 북쪽이라서 인적이 드물었으나 왕과 공신들이 함께 회맹제(會盟祭)를 열 때에는 이 문으로 드나들었다.
