		+	Unlike the other main royal palaces of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), namely [[경복궁\|Gyeongbokgung]], [[창덕궁\|Changdeokgung]], [[창경궁\|Changgyeonggung]], and [[경희궁\|Gyeonghuigung]], [[덕수궁\|Deoksugung Palace]] began as a royal residence of a descendant of the royal family. It was briefly used following the [[임진왜란\|Japanese invasions of 1592-1598]], then left until it was repurposed as the palace of the [[대한제국\|Korean Empire]] in 1897.
