==Definition==
1885년 서로전선(西路電線)을 운영하기 위하여 서울에 설치된 전보국. 1885년(고종 22) 9월 28일, 처음으로 서울과 인천간에 전신이 개통된 것을 계기로 서울에 한성총국(漢城總局), 인천에 분국(分局)을 설치하였으며, 곧 이어 평양·의주(義州)에도 분국을 두었다. 운영은 조청전선조약에 따라 청나라측이 담당하였고, 따라서 직원은 모두 청나라인으로 구성되었다. 1894년 청일전쟁 발발 후 서로전선이 일본군에 점령당하자 그 기능을 상실하고 실질적으로 해체되었다.
