+【1827~1905】.1883년부터 1905년까지 에 미국공사관이 존속했던 22년간 미국공사관의 책임자는 13번 교체되었다. 실제 책임을 맡았던 공사는 총 11명이다. 이 가운데 미국무부로부터 정식 신임장을 받아 부임한 공사는 푸트, 파커(William H. Parker. 1886.6.9~1886.9.1), 딘스모어(Hugh A. Dinsmore. 1887.4.1~1890.5.26), 허드(Augustine Heard. 1890.5.26~1893.6.30), 실(John M. B. Sill. 1894.4.30~1897.9.13), 알렌(Horace N. Allen. 1897.9.13~1905.6.8), 모건(Edwin V. Morgan. 1905.6.26~1905.11.28) 등 7명이었다. 주한미국공사관 허드의 한국에서의 활동은 뚜렷이 드러나는 업적은 없지만 그 역시도 청나라의 한국에 대한 종주권 강화에 대해서 부정적인 입장을 가지고 있었다. 허드의 개인적 저술 역시 남아있는 것이 없다.
