==Definition==

【1799년(정조 23)- 1858년(철종 9)】명성황후의 아버지.본관 여흥. 인현왕후의 아버지 민유중(閔維重)의 5대손. 재취인 한창부부인 사이와의 사이에서 명성황후를 낳았다.1826년 문음으로 장릉참봉이 되었고, 그뒤 제용감주부·의금부도사·사복시주부·충훈부도사 등을 거쳐 과천현감·임피현령(臨陂縣令) 등을 지냈다. 이후 조지서별감·사옹원주부·장악원첨정도 역임하고 덕천군수 등 지방수령도 다시 지냈다. 1855년 선혜청낭청, 1857년 영주군수를 지내고 1858년 사망했다. 아들이 없어 흥선대원군의 부인 여흥부대부인 민씨의 동생 민승호를 입양한 것이 딸 명성황후가 고종의 비가 되는 계기가 되었다. 후에 영의정으로 추서되고 여성부원군(驪城府院君)으로 봉작되었다. 시호는 순간(純簡)이다.
