경복궁 함원전

Definition

교태전 서쪽에 있는 건물이다. 건축 연대는 명확하지 않으나 『조선왕조실록』의 세종 31(1449)년 6월 18일(병인) 기사에 “내가 지은 건물” 이라는 기록이 있어 세종 때 만들어진 것으로 확인된다. 임진왜란 때 불탔다가, 고종 때 경복궁을 중건하면서 재건하였다. 함원전은 불교 행사가 자주 열렸던 것으로 기록되어 있어 이채롭다. 지금의 건물은 1995년에 복원된 것이다.
