교태전 현판

Definition

‘교태(交泰)’란 ‘천지, 음양이 잘 어울려 태평을 이루다’는 의미로,『주역』 ‘태(泰)’괘에서 유래한다. ‘태(泰)’괘는 순수한 음으로 구성된 ‘곤(坤)’괘가 위에 있고 순수한 양인 ‘건(乾)’괘가 아래에 있는 괘이다. ‘태’괘를 설명하며 「상전(象傳)」에서는, “하늘과 땅이 사귀는 것이 태[交泰]이니, 군주가 이 괘를 보고서 천지의 도(道)를 계획하여 이루고[財成] 천지의 마땅함을 돕고 살펴서 백성을 돕는다.”고 하였다. 현판의 글씨는 1994년에 사진으로 남은 글자를 복원하여 새겼다.
