경회루 현판

Definition

‘경회(慶會)’는 ‘경사스러운 연회’란 뜻이다. 처음 경회루를 건립했을 때 현판 글씨는 당시 세자였던 양녕대군(讓寧大君, 1394~1462년)이 썼다. 양녕대군은 태종의 장남이자 세종의 맏형이다. 지금의 현판은 1867(고종 4)년에 위당(威堂) 신관호(申觀浩, 1811~1884년)가 쓴 것이다.신관호는 추사(秋史) 김정희(金正喜, 1786~1856년)의 제자로 시와 글씨에 뛰어나 해남 대흥사의 현판 등을 쓰기도 했다. ‘樓(루)’자는 옛 서체를 따랐기 때문에 정자체와는 차이가 난다.
