함녕전 현판

Definition

‘함녕(咸寧)’은 ‘모두가 평안하다’는 뜻이다. 『주역(周易)』 '건(乾)' 괘 단사(彖辭)에 “만물에서 으뜸으로 나오니, 만국이 모두 평안하다(咸寧)”라고 한 것에서 유래했다.
