계무문 현판

Definition

‘계무(癸武)’란 ‘북쪽의 현무’를 뜻한다. ‘계(癸)’는 천간(天干)의 마지막이며 방위로는 ‘북쪽’에 해당한다. ‘무(武)’는 북쪽을 상징하는 동물인 ‘현무(玄武)’를 의미한다. 서체는 전서체(篆書體)이며 돌에 새긴 금석문이다. 특히 ‘癸(계)’자는 소전(小篆)으로 써서 알아 보기가 쉽지 않다.
