유화문 현판

Definition

‘유(維)’는 어조사이며, ‘화(和)’는 ‘온화함’, ‘조화로움’ 을 뜻한다. 예를 실천함에는 조화로움이 가장 중요하다는 의미이다. 『논어(論語)』 「학이(學而)」에 “예를 행하는 데에는 화(和)가 귀하다.”라는 말이 나온다. 『논어』 「학이」, “禮之用, 和爲貴. 先王之道, 斯爲美, 小大由之. 有所不行, 知和而和,不以禮節之, 亦不可行也.”

현판은 2001년 설치하였으며, 흥례문과 같이 정도준이 쓰고 오옥진이 새겼다.
