근정전은 [[경복궁]]의 정전(正殿)이며 그 남쪽 문이 [[근정문]]이다. 신하들이 임금에게 새해 인사를 드리거나 국가 의식을 거행하고 외국 사신을 맞이하는 일이 모두 이 곳에서 거행되었다. 경복궁 창건 당시인 1395(태조 4)년에 처음 지었으며 임진왜란 때 불타기 전까지 조선 전기의 여러 왕들이 이곳에서 즉위식을 했다. 1867년에 중건하여 오늘에 이른다.

Definition
