연태문 현판

Definition

‘연태(延泰)’는 ‘태평을 맞이한다’는 뜻이다. ‘연(延)’은 ‘맞이하다’,‘태(泰)’는 ‘태평’을 의미한다. 『주역』에서는 순수한 음으로 구성된 곤괘(坤卦)가 위에 있고 순수한 양인 건괘(乾卦)가 아래에 있는 괘를 태괘(泰卦)라고 한다. 이는 음양과 상하와 천지가 가장 잘 교감하는 상태를 가리킨다. 태평한 시대란 바로 이러한 시대이다.
