==Definition==

근정전은 [[경복궁]]의 정전(正殿)이며 그 남쪽 문이 [[근정문]]이다. 신하들이 임금에게 새해 인사를 드리거나 국가 의식을 거행하고 외국 사신을 맞이하는 일이 모두 이 곳에서 거행되었다. 경복궁 창건 당시인 1395(태조 4)년에 처음 지었으며 임진왜란 때 불타기 전까지 조선 전기의 여러 왕들이 이곳에서 즉위식을 했다. 1867년에 중건하여 오늘에 이른다.

+[[덕수궁]] 밖, 정동극장 뒤편으로 미국 대사관저와 담 하나를 사이에 두고 있다. 1900년 지은 지하 1층, 지상 2층의 벽돌 건물로, 처음에는 수옥헌(漱玉軒)이라 불렀다. 대한제국 황실의 도서관으로 건립했으나 1904년 덕수궁 대화재 이후 고종 황제의 편전으로 사용하면서 대한제국 역사의 주요 무대가 됐다. 1905년 을사늑약이 이 곳에서 체결됐고, 그 후 고종 황제가 각 나라에 밀서를 보내며 을사늑약의 부당함을 국제 사회에 호소하다 이 곳에서 강제 퇴위 당했다. 몇 번의 화재로 내부는 거의 손실됐고, 지금은 외관만 남아 있다.
