본관은 청주(淸州). 한상질(韓尙質)의 증손녀이고, 한명회(韓明澮)의 딸이며, 어머니는 민지(閔漬)의 5대손 민대생(閔大生)의 딸이다.
당대의 문벌 가문 출신이며 아름답고 정숙하다는 평으로 1460년(세조 6) 세자빈으로 책봉되었다.

세조의 총애를 받았으나, 1461년 원손 인성대군을 낳은 후 산후증으로 요절하였다. 시호는 휘인소덕장순왕후(徽仁昭德章順王后)이고, 능호는 공릉(恭陵)으로 경기도 파주시 조리면 봉일천리에 있다.
