[[명성황후(明成皇后 1851~1895)]] 조선 26대 고종의 왕비. 본관 여흥. 아버지는 민치록(閔致祿), 어머니는 한창부부인 이씨이다. 1866년(고종 3) 흥선대원군과 부대부인 민씨에 의해 왕비로 간택되었다. 시아버지 흥선대원군과 정치적 입장이 달라 임오군란 때 궁중을 탈출했다가 돌아온 적이 있고 갑신정변이 무위에 그치는데 일조를 했다는 평가가 있다. 19세기 말 내외의 격동 속에서 고종과 함께 국정을 주도하고자 했으나 1895년 일본군에 의해 경복궁에서 시해되었다.
