개항 이후 연회와 서구식 예복
Synopsis
조선이 개항 이후 국제화 시대로 접어들면서 궁중잔치는 전통식 연향과 근대식 연회라는 두 가지 스타일로 나뉘게 된다.[1] 이것은 외교 대상의 변화에 따른 것으로 잔치에 초대되는 서양 외교관들을 배려하여 새로운 스타일의 연회가 요청되었기 때문이다. 전통식 연향과 근대식 연회는 참석자를 비롯한 자리배치, 식기, 음식, 공연 등에서 차이를 보이고, 두 가지 양식의 잔치는 따로 행해졌으며, 기록 또한 각각 이루어졌으므로 개항 이후 편찬된 전통 연향 의궤에서는 서양인에 대한 언급을 찾아볼 수 없다.
이런 많은 변화 중 복식도 포함되고 1900년 4월 17일 서구식 문관 대례복이 제정되면서 근대식 연회에 착용하기도 했다. 연회 기록 중 복식에 관한 것은 자세하지 않은 편인데, 궁내부 예식원에서 주관하여 계획했던 고종황제 어극 40주년 기념행사 일정표에 각 연회에 착용할 복장이 간략하게 적혀있고, 다른 행사의 흑백사진 등 기록물들을 통해 어떤 복식이 입어졌는지 추측해볼 수 있다.
